Golden Prairie Bison sits on the Dakota-Nebraska Eroded Tableland — 3,000 acres of canyons, prairie, streams, and ponds, homesteaded by Carl’s grandmother in 1914. Carl and Vicki’s working cattle and bison ranch raises grass-fed bison, and they’ll take you out to see the herd grazing in its natural habitat on an educational bison/prairie tour.
The agritourism side goes further: the ranch’s primitive campsites were named one of Hipcamp’s 50 favorite places to camp in the US in 2026, and one of the best Hipcamps in Nebraska. Sites are self-contained — no toilets, showers, or potable water — but they overlook the Niobrara National Scenic River valley with wide hilltop sunrises, deer, eagles, and turkeys near the camper. Add stargazing, birding, canoeing outfitters nearby, and hunting excursions, and it’s the farthest thing from a KOA you can book.
