The Farnam is what happens when Omaha decides it’s done being underestimated. Opened in 2021 inside the Landmark Center office tower, it’s a 120-room love letter to the city’s railroad past — named for Henry Farnam, the engineer who made sure the transcontinental railroad ran through Omaha instead of Kansas City. Railroad ties in the common areas, river-map carpets, a registration desk built from a local church’s wood columns.
The details are the point: artwork hung on industrial pulleys, sawdust repurposed into wall panels. Then there’s the food — Dynamite Woodfire Grill does the serious steakhouse thing, and Catalyst is the cocktail lounge downtown was missing. It was named Marriott’s Autograph Collection Hotel of the Year in 2023, which for a Nebraska hotel is the equivalent of a mic drop.
Location-wise you can’t do better: Old Market on one side, the revamped Gene Leahy Mall on the other. Book a high floor — the corner suites have floor-to-ceiling windows over downtown.
