Whispering Pines is an 1878 Victorian farmhouse on six acres of flower and water gardens in Nebraska City — five rooms, each with its own personality, from the Rose Suite to the Roost in the Barn. Innkeeper Jeanna cooks a scratch breakfast that guests describe in the kind of detail usually reserved for restaurant reviews.
The extras are what set it apart: cooking classes (pasta, grilling, bourbon — the calendar rotates), a seven-person hot tub under some of the darkest skies in eastern Nebraska, and a genuine welcome for cyclists riding the Steamboat Trace Trail. The whole inn can be rented for reunions, and regularly is.
An hour from both Omaha and Lincoln, it’s the easy romantic weekend that doesn’t require a plan — though booking the barn room does require booking early.
