Four Winds earns its name daily. This public 18 in Kimball, on the High Plains near the Wyoming line, is famous for serving up breezes from all four directions in a single round — the natural hills and tree lines bend the wind into something different on every hole. Over 5,000 trees were planted during construction, and they’re fully grown now, defining each fairway. Four water hazards come into play on holes 3, 4, 10, and 13, none with a forced carry.
Reviewers rave about the greens — lightning fast, tough to read, but fair — and the conditioning, which holds up remarkably well for a High Plains muni. It’s a thinking player’s course: stay in the fairway, pick your tee shot, and don’t fight the wind.
The pro shop closes November through mid-March, but the course itself stays open until January. Call for tee times, though weekday walk-ons are usually no problem. It’s the natural stop on I-80 between Sidney and Cheyenne.
