Highlands is the best of Lincoln’s five municipal courses and the one serious golfers seek out. Designed by Jeff Brauer and opened in 1993, it’s a true links-style layout in northwest Lincoln — 7,021 yards from the tips, par 72, with the undulating greens, pot bunkers, and wind you expect from the style. The practice facility is genuinely excellent, one of the best in the Midwest.
Local color: it’s the “trains, planes, and automobiles” course, sitting near the Lincoln Airport, BNSF railway lines, and the highways. You’ll hear a little of all three, and nobody minds. The par-3 12th and par-4s 9 and 18, with their two-tiered greens and guarding ponds, are the holes that decide your score.
As a city course, it’s priced for everyone and open to the public 362 days a year. Book through Lincoln City Golf — it’s the most popular tee sheet in the city’s system, so plan ahead on weekends.
