Holmes is the neighborhood muni that Lincoln golfers grow up on. Built in the early 1960s on land near Holmes Lake in southeast Lincoln, it’s an 18-hole championship layout over gradual hills with water in play on eight holes and a 350-yard downhill driving range. It’s the kind of course where the regulars know each other and the Saturday morning games have been running for decades.
The signature moment comes on the 12th tee: look west and you get a clean view of the Nebraska State Capitol and the Lincoln skyline, one of the best vistas in municipal golf anywhere. A $1.9 million irrigation overhaul wrapping up in 2026 should have the turf in its best shape in 40 years.
Like all Lincoln city courses, it’s affordable, walkable, and open to everyone. Pair it with a lap around Holmes Lake afterwards — the trail crowd and the golf crowd have been sharing this corner of the city for 60 years.
