Lake Maloney is North Platte’s golfing institution. Designed by Bill Burns and opened in 1958, this 18-hole club was originally a sand-green facility — players putted on oiled sand, as generations of Sandhills golfers did — until it was converted to grass in the early 1990s. Today it’s a scenic, rolling test with six sets of tees stretching from 4,000 to 7,000 yards, considered the top course in the North Platte area.
The club keeps evolving: a 7-hole par-3 course opened in 2024, joining the championship 18, and the operation runs leagues, lessons with the director of golf, range passes, and one of the busier event calendars in west-central Nebraska. Green fees remain reasonable for the quality.
It’s semi-private and welcoming to public play. If you’re passing through North Platte on I-80 — and everyone passes through North Platte eventually — this is the round to book.
