Schramm is the state park that locals actually use: nearly three miles of wooded trails through Platte Valley bluffs, a suspension bridge on the long loop, and a quiet that feels impossible this close to Omaha. Trail runners, birders, and families all claim it.
The anchor is the Schramm Education Center, rebuilt in 2019 with the largest freshwater aquarium in Nebraska — 60-plus native species, a sturgeon touch tank, and genuinely good exhibits. Next door, the 1914 hatch house from Nebraska’s first fish hatchery is now a museum, and you can feed rainbow trout in the canyon ponds.
The Education Center is open daily 10 to 5 with a separate admission; the park grounds are sunrise to sunset. No camping here — that’s what nearby Louisville SRA and Mahoney are for — but as a day trip between Lincoln and Omaha, it’s hard to beat.
