You can see the missiles from I-80. The SAC Museum sits at the Ashland exit in a massive glass-and-steel facility, and inside is one of the great Cold War aircraft collections in the country: an SR-71 Blackbird suspended in the glass atrium, B-36 and B-52 bombers, an F-117 Nighthawk, Titan and Minuteman missiles standing vertically out front.

SAC was headquartered at Offutt Air Force Base until 1992, and the museum β€” founded in 1959 β€” was built to commemorate it. The Francis Gary Powers U-2 exhibit, with actual film canisters and reconnaissance photos from the 1960 shootdown, is the storytelling high point.

It’s open daily, plan on three hours, and the flight simulators are worth the extra ticket if you have kids (or are one). The restoration hangar sometimes lets you watch active aircraft restoration.
