The Oven has been Lincoln’s Indian standard-bearer for years, and it earns it. The downtown location at 8th and P does North Indian cooking the right way: lamb madras with real depth, paneer makhani, chicken tikka from the tandoor, and the starters people drive across town for — mulligatawny soup and the signature spinach-stuffed naan. Executive chef Ngawang Rinchen keeps the menu faithful without being precious; the staff’s line is “not all Indian dishes are spicy,” and they mean it.
The downtown room splits between a lively main dining room, a patio on the brick streets, and a quieter wine cellar downstairs — ask for the cellar if you want the date-night version. It books up at peak dinner hours, so reserve.
There’s a second location on the east side (4101 Pioneer Woods Dr) with the same menu. Both do takeout, and the downtown spot is the move before a show or after the farmers’ market.
