The Bob Kerrey Bridge is a 3,000-foot pedestrian bridge spanning the Missouri River, and its signature moment is the brass plaque at the midpoint: stand on it and you’re in two states at once. It’s a simple pleasure, and everyone does the photo.

The bridge opened in 2008 and anchors the whole riverfront trail system — you can walk or bike from downtown Omaha across to Council Bluffs, Iowa, and loop back along the river. The views of the downtown skyline from mid-river are the best in the city, especially at sunset.

It’s free, it’s always open, and it’s the natural centerpiece of a RiverFront visit. Go at dusk if you can. The bridge is lit at night and the whole crossing takes about 20 minutes each way at a stroll.
