The College World Series is Omaha’s defining event. Every June, the eight surviving teams in the NCAA baseball tournament descend on Charles Schwab Field, and for two weeks the city transforms: downtown fills with fans in eight different colors, the Old Market runs on baseball hours, and the whole town has opinions about the bracket.
Omaha has hosted the CWS since 1950 — it’s the longest-running championship at a single site in college sports, and the city treats it like a civic religion. Even if you don’t care about college baseball, the atmosphere is infectious: the tailgates, the fan fest, the sheer earnest joy of it.
Tickets for the finals are the hot commodity; early-round games are easier and just as fun. Book hotels absurdly early — the city sells out. If you’re visiting Omaha in June, this is why.
