Opened in 2023 on the riverfront, the Luminarium is the rare science museum that adults enjoy as much as kids. The 125 exhibits are genuinely interactive — you’re building, testing, and experimenting, not reading placards. It’s designed by the same minds behind San Francisco’s Exploratorium, and it shows.

The building itself is part of the draw: floor-to-ceiling glass looking out over the Missouri River, right on The RiverFront park system. It’s the best rainy-day option downtown, and the riverfront location means you can walk the parks before or after.

Give it two to three hours. The riverfront setting makes it an easy anchor for a downtown day — pair it with lunch in the Old Market, a five-minute walk away.
