Orsi’s has been on the same Little Italy corner since 1931, and in business since 1919, when Alfonso Orsi opened the bakery after coming home from World War I. Four generations later, it’s still family-run, still baking the twist bread and palm-sized Sicilian pizzas that built its name.
The 1997 fire that gutted the bakery could have ended it; instead the neighborhood rallied, and it was rebuilt on the same spot. Today it’s bakery, pizzeria, and Italian deli — imported cheeses, homemade sausage, the provisions you can’t find elsewhere in Omaha. Owner Jim Hall greets regulars by name and seems to know everyone’s order.
This is living history you can eat. Go for the pizza, leave with a bag of bread and biscotti, and take a minute to appreciate that places like this still exist.
