The Bookworm has been Omaha’s independent bookstore since 1986, family-owned by Phillip and Beth Black through three locations. The current 6,000-square-foot store at 90th and Center is bright and browsable, with a standout children’s section, puzzles and games, and staff who actually read the books they recommend.

The Baker’s Dozen program is the local legend: buy twelve books, get a credit toward the next one. The store also hosts 100+ active book clubs, author events, and story times — it’s a genuine community hub, not just a retail floor. Dogs are welcome, which tells you most of what you need to know.

Named Nebraska’s best independent bookstore more than once. If you buy books in Omaha, buy them here.
