Twenty minutes west of Omaha, Two Rivers is the metro’s summer backyard: five sand-bottomed lakes, one of them stocked with trout and managed as a put-and-take fishery, and the rest built for swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, and water bikes — all rentable on-site. The floating playground is the reason half the kids in Douglas County spend July here.
The campgrounds run electric sites and handle the metro’s full weekend migration: families with boats, fishing dads on the trout lake, groups who want swimming in the morning and a campfire at night without driving an hour home. Reservations matter on summer weekends — this is not a first-come-and-hope situation in July.
Two Rivers is the practical choice, not the romantic one, and it owns that role. Platte River State Park sits nearby for hiking; here the draw is water you can get in. The trout lake is stocked regularly, so even beginners land fish. Go on a weekday if you can — the park’s whole personality changes when the weekend crowds clear out.
