Wagon Train is the Salt Valley SRA for people who never reserve anything. All camping is first-come, first-served β Iron Ranger envelopes, cash or check β with 28 electric pads (20, 30, and 50 amp) plus 80 non-pad basic sites without electricity. Itβs 21 miles south of Lincoln and two miles east of Hickman, close enough for a no-planning Friday escape.
The 316-acre lake is the centerpiece for fishing and no-wake boating, but be honest with yourself before you go: recent visitors report the lake has been drawn down hard in stretches β swimming has been limited and the shoreline can look more marsh than lake. Check water conditions before promising the kids a swim. The camping itself gets solid marks: clean, spacious, good trails for hiking.
The name comes from the pioneer-era wagon routes that ran through this country. As a quick overnight β a clean, cheap, first-come spot with real trails and a fishing lake twenty minutes from Lincoln β Wagon Train earns its keep. Just call or check the parkβs current status on the lake before you load the swimsuits.
