Windmill is Nebraska’s honest road-trip park. Two miles south of Gibbon, minutes off I-80, it offers 69 paved campsites with 20-, 30-, and 50-amp hookups, six fishing ponds stocked with bass and trout, an 18-hole disc golf course, and wheelchair-accessible trails. It’s the stop you make when you need a clean, easy overnight with things for the kids to do — and it does that job better than most.
Campers’ two recurring notes: fall is the best season here (quieter, cooler, the park at its prettiest), and the interstate is audible after dark — light sleepers should know before they pick a site near the highway. The $7 daily entry keeps it cheap, and it’s genuinely wheelchair-accessible, which matters for family trips with grandparents.
The windmill theme gives it a bit of personality beyond the average SRA, and the disc golf course draws a local crowd. This isn’t a destination park and doesn’t pretend to be — it’s the reliable, well-kept roadside stop that Nebraska’s park system is full of, and one of the better ones.
