The Konecky family has farmed Saunders County since 1876 and milked cows since the 1950s, when a 14-year-old Tom Konecky Sr. won a Guernsey calf in a dairy judging contest. That one calf started a nationally recognized dairy herd, now run by the fifth generation.
Raw milk and cream sell by the jug β bring your own container. The on-farm store, open daily 8 to 8, carries pasteurized cheeses (in partnership with Dutch Girl Creamery), ice cream, yogurt, and butter. The herdβs signature is its Guernseys, whose high-beta-carotene milk comes out a rich golden color. Farm tours welcome classrooms, groups, and families β the kind of dairy tour that reminds you milk comes from somewhere specific.
